BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH

A falling apple

suddenly stops midair

unsure of whether to continue its course

or to return to the treetop

while the Kansas State Board of Education

argues over the weighty question

of gravity

Note: Several years ago, under the pressure of some American religious groups, Kansas State Board of Education decided to remove the Theory of Evolution from high school curriculum.
