after enduring snow and ice

these trees know well

the cruelty of flames of war

and the pretentiousness

of drums and banners

right at this moment

they are building

with their withered

yet sprouting branches

a genuine

Arc de Triomphe

and with songs of birds and scent of flowers

they warmly welcome

the return of spring
