紫禁城    FORBIDDEN CITY 

            何等殘酷的刑罰     how cruel a punishment

                    被推出午門     being pushed out to be decapitated

                    斬首的老臣     at the Meridian Gate

                必須踉蹌走過     the poor old official must stumble through

    一條長廊又一條長廊     one long corridor after another long corridor

    一個宮院又一個宮院     one huge mansion after another huge mansion

一道宮門又一道宮門     one tall threshold after another tall threshold

                   曲折的宦途     after a treacherous road to power

                   迢遙的絕路     an endless road to the dead end

   讒言鐐銬的沉重腳步     on the uneven brick floors

   在凹凸不平的磚地上     one can still see his indistinct footprints

               依稀仍可辨識     markings of calumnies and heavy chains
