The Eternal Struggle

There is eternal thirst
 In Laos, in Vietnam, in Cambodia,
Thirst for the right to live, for
The four freedoms. Oh, eternal thirst
In every dark corner, where tyranny
Is putting a wolf at everybody's door.
Thirst, thirst, the burning thirst!
When fertile lands keep changing to deserts.

There is eternal aspiration
In collective farms, in jails, in economic zones,
And in countless camps of re-education,
Where meager dogs have been bullying mighty tigers.
The tough souls are humiliated in persecution.
Aspiration, aspiration, the ardent aspiration,
For lions to break the fence, for eagles to fly,
For ambition to soar in the sky!

There is eternal regret
In battle fields, in crematories, in grave yards,
And in the immense of ocean,
The drowned, the killed, the raped,
Oh, the grievous spirits,
Many a face turns with eyes unclosed,
To fate, to God, to Heaven 's courts,
Oh, eternal grievance, eternal resentment, eternal appeals
Wherever the earthly inferno prevail
In the lands where iron-curtains are tight,
There is struggle, vigorous struggle, continuing struggle!
Until the Sun of Democracy kicks out the long, long horrid night。

     上面這首英文詩，是黎啟鏗於一九八五年，以家庭團聚的難民身份，獲准移民美國，在停居巴丹島的七個月期間，參加由聯合國轄下菲律賓「難民處理中心」所舉辦，史無前例的首屆以「難民悲慘遭遇」作為徵詩限定題材之「英文新詩創作比赛」，並在比赛中勝出的冠軍之作。
    《我們》月刊得到黎君將該詩自譯成中文，連同英文原作交由《我們文藝》發表，以饗讀者。       ---刊載於一九八七年二月份「我們」月刊第八期。
永無休止的奮鬥

 有永無止竭的饑渴，
 在寮國，在越南，在柬埔寨，

饑渴於生存的權利，

饑渴於四大自由， 
啊，永無止竭的饑渴，
 遍佈每一個黑暗的角落，

那裡有極權者在把饑餓帶入每家每戶，
 饑渴！饑渴！灼腸的饑渴！

當肥沃的土壤不斷地變化成沙漠。

 有永恒熱切的仰望，
 在集體農場，在監獄，在經濟區，
 以及在無數計的改造營，

那裡有猛虎被鷹犬欺凌，
幾許剛毅的靈魂受盡迫害！受盡屈辱！
 仰望！仰望！熱血沸騰的仰望！
 雄獅當砸破牢籠，

強鷹當振翅高飛，

豪邁壯志當翱翔在無涯的蒼穹！

 有綿綿無盡的遺恨，
 在戰區，在火葬場，在墓塚，
 以及在那茫茫的海洋，
 溺死的，殺死的，姦死的，
 啊，淒苦哀絕的幽魂，
 無數張臉孔猶瞪著死不瞑目的眼球， 
向命運，向上帝，向天國的法庭提控！

帶著滿腔的冤情，帶著滿腔的仇恨，
 在每一個氾濫著「人間煉獄」的國度，
 那裏有重重緊緊封鎖的鐵幕，
 那裏就有鬥爭，慘烈的鬥爭，持續的鬥爭！
 直至民主的太陽把那漫漫的恐怖長夜攆走！
