故事簡介：

Tom Dooley 是由一首在美國民間傳頌百年老歌 Tom Dula 改編而成，描述於 1866 年有一對準備要私奔的男女，後來因為內戰突發而女生 Laura Foster 移情別戀。男生 Thomas C. Dula ( 即 Tom Dooley 是一名南北內戰退伍軍人 ）在悲憤之餘殺了女生，最後他被送上絞刑台。

1957 年，The Kingston Trio 樂隊將故事稍微改編後，放在首張專輯唱片，轟動一時。人們開始談論這段陳年舊事。後來，北卡羅萊納州政府還找到這位 Tom Dooley 的墳墓，並特赦了他的罪。後來整個故事也在兩年後（1959年）搬上大銀幕，拍成「魂斷奈何天」( The Legend of Tom Dooley ）這部電影。
