How could such
stems, slender yet erect
and flowers with
such a permeating aroma
arise from a
handful of clear water
and a few little
stones
I know my two
sons
who have grown
used to fertilizer
must be wondering
if the flowers
from my native country
are just another
myth I made up
to remind them of
the hardship-filled past
so they would
appreciate the plentiful present
